Winter Light

The coasts of the Great Lakes of Michigan are my most frequent spots for plein air painting. I have done dozens of studies in these areas on backpacking trips in all seasons. This particular painting is based off a plein air study I did in Saugatuck Dunes State Park this winter, while my girlfriend and best friend joined me and made hot chocolate near the beach. I find endless inspiration in these beautiful environments, and in my paintings I try to capture the experience with light in color in these sacred spaces.
