Swarm

This painting was based off a memory. A few years ago one of my best friends and I stumbled upon a migration of monarch butterflies inside a tiny dune forest near Lake Michigan. It rained the entire time we were backpacking, and the mosquitos devoured us. We woke up to sunshine the final morning of our trip with light flittering in our eyes. As we looked at the tops of the trees we noticed what seemed to be dried leaves start to flutter, and then hundreds of monarchs started flying down and swarming the forest. It was a beautiful visual experience I will never forget!
